World Cup Withdrawal

July 16, 2010

Yes it is definitely true…..Jay and I are experiencing various symptoms of World Cup Withdrawal. We were totally into it, watching live/recording all FIFA had to offer. Now we forlornly go to our DVR nightly to search fruitlessly for the most recent match to watch. Our cocktail bar is gathering dust with no more excuse to drink in the middle of the day…..well less of one anyway. I’m sad its over and we are going to have to wait four more years for all the fun to start again. My mood is certainly not helped by the fact that it is a zillion degrees outside with a kazillion percent humidity. Typical summer weather I guess for DC/Northern Virginia, which is why I am searching the cooler climes for a summer home (more on that later)  And…if things weren’t bad enough here, we were woken up by an earthquake this morning! I know a 3.6 isn’t very much for all the people in California, who are used to such goings-on, however at 5 a.m this morning, I really was not expecting an earthquake to come callin! All of this weather weirdness and the lack of any World Cup action is quite a bummer. I even miss the vuvuzelas, and I never thought I’d say that! By the end of the Cup I had gotten used to the noise and could tune it out, but for the first few matches I did feel like we were watching from inside some huge bee hive. I did come across some funny videos though when I went looking for that dulcet buzz to soothe my frayed nerves. My favourite is:

I also like this next one, but who doesn’t dig sock puppets?!

Besides the vuvuzela, which was new to me this World Cup, we also got to hear about Paul the Psychic Octopus. How awesome is it that a psychic octopus exists?! He hasn’t been wrong for 2 years! I think I might have a question or two for him, but alas…I hear he has retired. Here he is picking Spain as the Cup winner. Yay Paul!!!

Well, I guess that’s all for now. I’ll get back to you after the next tremor.
