Ireland’s First School of Falconry

FalconryWe thought we’d add a few new posts on things people might be interested in doing or seeing while visiting Ireland. One of the things we are very excited about doing is visiting Ireland’s First School of Falconry which is located on the grounds of 13th century Ashford Castle in Cong, County Mayo. Here you can receive private lessons on handling and flying Harris hawks. The school also houses various other Birds of Prey which are flown free daily. They offer a 60 minute or 90 minute private Hawk Walk (there will not be any strangers on your walk) with a falconer around the wooded grounds of the castle. The cost (ranging from $155-$235 per couple) depends on the number of people in the group as well as the length of time of the session. The school is open year round and can often accommodate last minute bookings, though requests that you try to book 1-2 days in advance. Cong is located about 1 hour north of Galway city. We’ve added the location to our wedding map. Tel. 353 94 954 6820
